Excessive sodium of any form can cause high blood pressure (hypertension) which rapidly increase the risks of strokes and heart diseases, the two major killers in most developed countries. It is also linked with liver failure, kidney disease, stomach cancer, osteoporosis, fluid retention (edema), muscles cramps, and aggravates respiratory problems.
There are more than forty known sodium additives. Here is only a short list of additives that are commonly used in commercially manufactured foods, read your labels:
Table salt (sodium chloride) is devoid of any nutrient and can become toxic for our cells. Water will go where sodium is, and water molecules will attach to the sodium molecules. This is what causes water retention.
However, water retention is not because you're drinking too much water. On the contrary, water retention is a signal to you that you're not drinking enough water and your cells are clinging on to the water molecules for survival.
For flavor substitute, use lemon juice, garlic, herbs or spices instead. If you really must use salt, switch to Celtic sea salt which has 84 trace minerals. Celtic sea salt has many healing virtues that have the direct opposite effects of table salt. It is particularly helpful for eliminating mucus build-up.
